Zidan back in Egypt contention

Mohamed Zidan will return to Egypt fold in the final phase of the World Cup qualifiers, assistant coach Shawki Gharib said on Thursday.

The Dortmund forward was suspended by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) in June for skipping a World Cup qualifier against DR Congo without a valid excuse.

But Egypt's technical staff has now given him the green light to rejoin the Pharaohs' squad ahead of the decisive round of the World Cup qualifiers.

"We think that his punishment was enough. He did not represent Egypt in six matches of the qualifiers," Shawki told Modern Sport.

Zidan's presence will help add more firepower to Egypt, who boast a variety of talents upfront.

The 26-year-old played a pivotal role in helping Egypt claim a second successive Nations Cup title in 2008.

He scored two goals in the tournament and created several goals for his teammates.

Meanwhile, Shawki revealed that Egypt have accepted an invitation to face Germany in a friendly game in November 2009.

"The match should take place on 19th November of next year," he added.
