Arab quartet cruise to final phase, Senegal out

Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Sudan have all marched their ways to the final stage of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, whereas Senegal have shockingly missed out.

Algeria booked their place as Group 6 leaders, following a goalless draw in Liberia, whilst Senegal were denied by a 1-1 home draw with Gambia.

Gambia's Tijan Jaiteh scored in the last four minutes in Dakar, to deny the Teranga Lions a top spot and send them to third place.

A series of violent events followed the game at Leopold Senghor Stadium, as angry fans ransacked the Senegalese FA's place.

In Group 9, Tunisia thrashed Seychelles 5-1 in Rades, courtesy of a double from highly-rated forward Amine Chermiti.

Tunisia reached 13 points to go through, along with Burkina Faso, who visit Burundi on Sunday.



Faisal Ajab scored a priceless second goal to steer Sudan to a 2-0 victory over Congo, as the Sudanese claimed second spot in Group 10 with a one-goal difference.

Morocco finished top of the three-team Group 8 after beating Mauritania 4-1 at home. Rwanda also go through as runner-up.

Sudan, Togo, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Malawi and Rwanda boast unassailable leads over other teams fighting for a second-best finish.

Once all the matches in the four-team groups have been played, the results between the second- and fourth-placed sides will not be considered when comparing the second-placed teams' respective records
